I am so excited that we were able to have our very first Coleman Academy for Girls Open House! Our amazing girls recited Scripture from memory, read papers they wrote about their moms and dads, showed off their notebooks, and played some wonderful piano pieces. Mrs. Dix played some duets with the girls and had positive comments about their growth in reading music and playing. We discovered that pretty much everyone loves brownies!
We had a substitute on Friday (who spoiled the 3rd graders for sure- haha) while our 6th grader and teacher went on a church youth camping trip.
Here are some highlights from week 12 in regard to our studies:
- Ocean animals: whales, sharks, dolphins, rays, deep sea creatures, sea creature migration, Arctic and Antarctic animals, and waves
- Ancient China: Great Wall, Silk Road, terracotta army of Qin Shi Huangdi, Confucius
- Rome: The rise of Julius Caesar, consuls of Rome, Senate of Rome, Caesar fights the Celts, "You're about to cross the Rubicon", Caesar and Cleopatra, "Et tu, Brute?"
- 1 Samuel: Israel's last judge, Saul's struggles as king, David appointed as king, trusting and obeying in God's Word
- Fractions: identifying equivalent fractions
- Multiplication fact memorization x0, x1, x2
- We started practicing our multiplication memorization on an app that can track our progress and adjust practice problems to the quizzes each student takes. We are starting off slow with the easier facts and will work through all the facts. Each student will go at their own pace.
- Our 3rd graders took time to read a variety of genres in their independent reading time this week
- Vocabulary- we are on to lesson 6 with some great words, such as: loathe, meddle, grim, escalate, monstrous, steadfast, agony, inflict, abolish, etc...
A short list this week, but the learning was not short.
We hope you enjoy the photos of the week, coming soon!
