Week 30 Overview
What an exciting week! First, we celebrated a certain 3rd grader's 9th birthday! We learned new things, as always. We had spring photos along the Riverwalk at Friendship Fountain, lunch at River City Brewery, explored at The Cummer Art Museum in Riverside, and enjoyed our last day of co-op for this school year.
Here is just some of our learning:
Bible
Acts 13-20 Paul's Missionary Adventures
History
The Songhay Empire rose after the fall of Mali (in West Africa). Leo Africanus, a medieval traveler, explored the land of Songhay and wrote a bout his adventures. Europeans were able to learn about West Africa from his book History and Description of Africa and the Noble Things Contained Therein, published in 1526. Songhay was the largest West African Empire, but was torn apart by the Moroccans in search of gold mines.
The Moghul Dynasty in India- Babur, a descendent of Genghis Khan, invaded Delhi in 1526. After he died in 1530, he left his empire to his oldest son, Humayan, but he was driven out by invaders. It took him 15 years to return to his palace, and just one year later he died. His 13 year old son, Akbar, was crowned Emperor and he reigned for forty-nine years. Though he was Muslim, he married a Hindu princess and allowed both religions, making him very popular. His empire covered half of India. Many folk tales were told about Akbar of India.
