Week 13 flew by this past week! Here are some highlights of our learning:
- Octavian, Julius Caesar's nephew, wins over the people, becomes Consul, then transitions to a "princely" role. He was called Rome's "First Citizen" instead of king. His name was also changed to Augustus Caesar.
- The beginning of Christianity, the birth of Jesus, His crucifixion, His resurrection, the end of the Ancient Jewish Nation, and the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.
- 2 Samuel and 1 Kings- David was a great king, David sinned, David confessed and was forgiven, why Uzzah died, those who liked David and those who didn't, David's son is killed, God's promise to David, David's son (Solomon) becomes king, Solomon builds God's temple in Jerusalem, Solomon was wise in many things, but not in some things.
- This week, our 3rd graders worked on fractions with some fun games: paper pumpkin pies, fraction pie cards, and using the math fact app.
- Simplifying fractions, equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions
- More than animals in the sea: hurricanes, tsunamis, boats and ships, "crittercams" in the deep sea, tide, currents, tide pools, shipwrecks, sunken treasure, and fishermen.
- We finished Flame Over Tara and we love how it ended! This book was about the spread of Christianity into Erin (Ireland) by Saint Patrick and new Christians discovering what it means to pledge their lives to God in comparison to the beliefs of the Druids and their superstitious beliefs.
- Our 6th grader is learning about the amazing human body in science
- We took a break this week from grammar, spelling, and most of our writing, but we will get back to those in week 14 with some fun Thanksgiving themed activities. Our 3rd graders did write a poem. This was just a rough draft and was done independently. They really did a great job! Reading poetry everyday has helped them understand different kinds of poems, themes, and the importance of word choice.'
- We had a little fun this week playing games on our Thanksgiving write-on activity table cloth, watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and Charlie Brown Mayflower, going to co-op and the park, and we had Snoopy's Thanksgiving meal (popcorn, pretzels, toast, and jelly beans).
